Yearly archives: 2012

Because it’s more fun to give than receive…

It is that time of year…the happiest time of year, right? We love the cooler temperatures, picking out the perfect christmas tree, decking the halls, cookie parties…but in the midst of all that, my favorite thing about the holidays is that we all travel near and far to be the ones we love. No matter what each of us celebrate, the holidays are such a wonderful time to slow down amongst all the hustle and bustle to count our blessings and give thanks…especially when such tragedy has affected so many innocent people here and around the world.

This year we’ll be spending the holidays with Nicholas’ side of the family…the last Christmas we’ll all have together before our twin nieces arrive in the spring. Cannot wait to see the Kain family grow + 2…like I said, so much to be grateful for.

I have six…yes, SIX fun little giveaway prizes! A few of them were donated by such talented designers and sweet friends of mine, Whitney English, Emily Ley, Amber Housley and Annette Thurmon of Chaviano Couture.

Southern Weddings Magazine | Published

So thrilled to have been published in the Southern Weddings 5th Anniversary issue this fall! If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, you can buy it a local newsstands or order HERE…it is filled with gorgeousness! The ladies behind Southern Weddings Magazine have really outdone themselves this time…we’re talking inspiration, lots of shared advice from amazingly talented wedding professionals, gold foil SW header and of course some of the prettiest southern details through out the issue. Lara, Emily, Nicole, Marissa and Kristen – Thank you for allowing me to be apart of this lovely issue!
Editor-in-chief, Lara Casey and Creative Director, Emily Thomas were looking to create a spread that highlighted what marriage is truly all about, the vows. The vows were written in calligraphy by  the talented Lindsay of Lindsay Letters and the styling was by my sweet friend and designer Amber Housely.  For a few behind the scene peeks visit Amber’s post HERE – it was such a fun trip out to Nashville!
The bouquet on the bottom left was from an inspiration shoot Amber and I dreamed up. The gorgeous floral design was done by the one and only Holly Chapple
And lastly one my summer brides had their bouquet featured in the magazine – right spread, bottom left – the beautiful full all-gardenia bouquet. You can imagine how good it smelled! Thank you to the Southern Weddings Ladies for pouring their heart and soul into their work and creating this gorgeous issue – and huge congratulations to them as this is their 5th anniversary issue! I am very honored to be published next to so many people I admire in the industry!

Ellie Turns One | Chapel Hill, NC | Family

I just love this sweet family! I did little Ellie’s newborn shoot last year and was so flattered when they asked me to do her 1 year old session. We had so much fun! This little one did THREE outfit changes and she knew how to rock each of them :) Happy 1st Birthday Ellie! Here is some cuteness from her shoot.
How adorable is she in her little tutu and leg warmers!

Lincoln 6 mo. | Richmond, VA | Family + Kids

I am always so grateful when families book me for a 1st year series. There are many different options my clients will choose to do, but for Lincoln, his parents secured me for newborn, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year photo sessions. It’s so much fun for me to get to see the kids again and capture how quickly they grow up – I met Lincoln when he was just days old…he just seems to get taller and taller by the day! I’m pretty sure he has to be one of the cutest kids in town!

Dad unfortunately couldn’t make the shoot  this time – but Lincoln sure loved taking a few photos with his mama that day!
So handsome…and those eyes are beautiful! I have a feeling he’s going to be a little heartbreaker :)

Maxfield Family | Richmond, VA | Family

Here in Richmond, we have some of the most gorgeous parks! I think this family picked the exact perfect day for their family session – it was just as most every tree was a beautiful yellow-orange combination of color and the day before Hurricane Sandy was expected to hit shore – once Sandy came, the leaves were all blown off the trees at this particular location. Thankful Richmond did not get much damage at all during that storm. How cute is this family, from their adorable kiddos to their perfectly planned outfits this mama decided on…I could have photographed this family all day long.

I love the girls’ polka-dot skirt so much! I’m not going to lie, I kind of wish it was made for grown-ups and that it would be acceptable for me to wear in public :)

David Elliott | Richmond, VA | Newborn

Meet David Elliott. He was just shy of two weeks old at this shoot. This little man was happy to have photo taken all morning long as long his mom or dad was holding him :) Now how sweet and perfect is he?  Congratulations Michael and Laura on your newest family addition!

Claire + Matt | Chapel Hill, NC | Wedding

Claire and Matt were married at St Francis of Assisi in Raleigh on a gorgeous, warm North Carolina summer day. After the ceremony we all hopped in a limo and rode over to Chapel Hill for their reception at the always lovely Carolina Inn. Over the course of their wedding planning I was lucky enough to become friends with Claire (one of the perks of working with such sweet brides) – I learned that much of her family was in California and Matt’s family was in New York. Their wedding day was full of so much love and support as so many of their guests traveled from all over the country to North Carolina to join in on celebrating Claire and Matt’s love and commitment to each other.

After the “I dos” were official we all hopped a limo and rode over to Chapel Hill for a few photos around UNC’s campus and the Carolina Inn.
Seriously how gorgeous are these three sisters? I love that Claire had her two sisters in different color dresses from the rest of the bridal party – so special! And My goodness Make Up For Your Day did such an amazing job on the ladies hair and make-up!
We had some beautiful afternoon light for their formal photos after the ceremony. The Purple Puddle did a wonderful job on Claire’s bouquet…it was even just featured in the newest issue of Southern Weddings V5! If you haven’t seen the issue yet, be sure to pick up a copy at your local shop ( I know Barnes + Nobel carries them) or order easy by clicking HERE Congratulations Claire and Matt!!! These two will be finding out very soon where Matt will match for residency…and I secretly have my fingers crossed they match up here at MCV so we can be neighbors :)

When Jessie approached me about photographing her home for a feature on The Everygirl blog I immediately jumped on board. Not only is Jessie a sweetheart, but to have my work featured on one of my favorite online resources made this such an exciting opportunity!

I just love, love, love this last image! Jessie and her handsome pup Hank…she and her hubby also have another pup you will get to meet by checking out the feature on The Everygirl. Big thanks to Jessie and The Everygirl for letting me participate in this fun project!
